Toronto Police Service issue public safety alert for food product tampering
The CFIA issued an alert as follows:
"The Toronto Police Service would like to make the public aware of three cases involving food tampering.
It is reported that:
If you have reason to suspect that a meat product has been tampered with, you are requested to retain the product, packaging and any receipt. You are also requested to contact your local police".
Further alerts were issued on 01-06-10 and 02-06-10 - this takes the number of incidents up to five.
"The Toronto Police Service would like to make the public aware of three cases involving food tampering.
It is reported that:
- since May 2010, police have been investigating three separate food tampering cases involving Piller's Polish Sausage,
- customers, after purchasing the item, located a needle embedded in a sausage,
- two packages were purchased at the No Frills store at 372 Pacific Avenue and one at 2187 Bloor Street West.
If you have reason to suspect that a meat product has been tampered with, you are requested to retain the product, packaging and any receipt. You are also requested to contact your local police".
