FDA and FSIS recalls this week

Imported Frozen Raw Tuna (Ahi) Cubes Distributed on Oahu Test Positive for Hepatitis A; Voluntary Product Recall Underway.

Foster Poultry Farms, a Farmerville, La. establishment, is recalling approximately 131,880 pounds of frozen, ready-to-eat breaded chicken patty products that may be contaminated with foreign materials, specifically plastic, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced.

Baraka Bakery and Grocery, a Nashville, Tenn. retail firm, is recalling an undetermined amount of ground beef products that may be adulterated with E. coli O157:H7, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced

Maple Leaf Foods, Inc., headquartered in Ontario, Canada, is recalling approximately 24,768 pounds of Ready-to-Eat (RTE) fully-cooked quiche products that were not presented for re-inspection upon entry to the United States, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced today. Without the benefit of full inspection, a possibility of adverse health consequences exists.

Blount Fine Foods, Corp., a McKinney, Texas establishment, is recalling approximately 8,685 pounds of Beef Chile Colorado frozen meals due to misbranding and an undeclared allergen, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced today. The products are mislabeled as Beef Chile Colorado, but the packaged product contains cheese enchiladas with milk as an ingredient. Milk is a known allergen and is not declared on the product label.

Perdue Foods LLC., a Gainesville, Ga. establishment, is recalling approximately 2,148 pounds of chicken sausage products that may be contaminated with extraneous materials, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced.

I have been catching up this morning with all the food recalls around the world and linking to them on this FoodSafetyChat Blog and on Twitter. There seem to be some new emerging issues carrageenan in jelly products,  E.coli O26 and cheese, and some more frequent issues - metal contamination, mislabelling of products with the wrong label, hygiene failures, undeclared allergens and so on.
