FDA and FSIS recalls this week

The Cure House, a Louisville, Ky. establishment, is recalling an undetermined amount of cured pork products that were produced without the benefit of federal inspection, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced.

Voluntary Recall Notice for Zatarain's Red Beans and Rice Original due to Possible Health Risk from Undeclared Ingredients. The Red Beans and Rice Original product may actually contain Creamy Parmesan Rice Mix with dairy ingredients. Dairy allergens are not labeled on the Red Beans and Rice Original package. People with a dairy allergy or sensitivity run the risk of a serious or life threatening allergic reaction if they consume this product.

Coconut milk FSANZ recall due to undeclared dairy

Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) last week issued recall notices for two coconut milk drink products due to the presence of an undeclared allergen (dairy). The two products were: Sammi Australia’s Orthodox Coconut Milk Juice (6 pack, 245 ml); and Sunnation Pty Ltd’s V-Fresh Coconut Milk Drink (240 ml aluminium can).

Consumers who have a dairy allergy or intolerance are advised to return the product to place of purchase for a full refund. Withdrawal of Fruice Apple and Fruice Orange Drinks Due to Ineffective Seals

Without the benefit of full inspection, a possibility of adverse health consequences exists.

The Kraft Heinz Company is expanding the voluntary recall of select code dates and manufacturing codes of individually-wrapped American slices due to the possibility that a thin strip of the individual packaging film may remain adhered to the slice after the wrapper has been removed. If the film sticks to the slice and is not removed, it could potentially cause a choking hazard.

Olli Salumeria Americana, LLC., an Oceanside, Calif., establishment, is recalling approximately 5,391 pounds of salami products due to misbranding. The products’ packaging does not contain a list of ingredients, and FSIS wants consumers to be aware that this product was formulated with wine that contains sulfites. Consumption of these products may cause adverse health consequences for consumers who have sulfite sensitivities.

Recall of Batches of Tesco Bran Flakes Due to Possible Presence of Plastic Fragments

Tesco Ireland is recalling the above batches of Tesco Bran Flakes, as a small number of packets may contain plastic fragments. No other products are affected by this recall. Tesco Ireland is issuing in-store recall notices requesting customers who have bought these implicated batches to return them to a Tesco store.

Superlife Ltd is recalling a batch of its Superlife Original Superfood Mix because it contains gluten and is labelled as 'gluten free'. This means the product is a possible health risk for anyone with an intolerance to gluten. Gluten was found above the level permitted for a gluten-free product in a batch of barleygrass powder. This barleygrass powder is an ingredient in Original Superfood Mix, which is labelled as gluten-free.

Bimbo Bakeries USA has initiated a voluntary regional recall of certain bread products under the Sara Lee®, Kroger®, Bimbo®, Nature’s Harvest®, Great Value and L’Oven Fresh® brands due to the possible presence of fragments of glass caused by a broken light bulb at one of its bakeries.

General Mills has announced a voluntary Class I recall of a limited quantity of frozen Cascadian Farm Cut Green Beans produced over two days in March 2014. The recall is being issued as a precaution after one package of finished product tested positive for the presence of Listeria monocytogenes.
