Undeclared MSG

Quality Food Distributor, a Las Vegas, Nev., establishment, is recalling approximately 50,820 pounds of Steamed BBQ Flavored Pork Buns because it contains monosodium glutamate (MSG), which is not declared on the label, the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service announced today.

The following product is subject to recall: Approximately 12-lb cases of "STEAMED BBQ FLAVORED PORK BUNS," containing 96 pork buns per case. The product subject to recall bears the establishment number "EST. 34064" inside the USDA mark of inspection. This product was produced between April 5, 2011, and April 4, 2012, and was sold to a distributor in Las Vegas, Nev. This product may have been further distributed to restaurants. The problem was discovered by FSIS personnel during a label review conducted in conjunction with a routine food safety assessment. FSIS has determined that the MSG was contained in the marinade used during the cooking process and was left off the label of the final product. FSIS and the company have received no reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of these products.
