Gippsland & Flowerdale Salad sprouts recalled over E. Coli fear

Victoria-based Gippsland Sprout Co has recalled two of its salad sprout products after they tested positive for the bacteria, E. Coli. Victorian Health Authorities are have issued a health alert consumers not to eat the company’s Salad Sprouts ‘Alfalfa, Onion & Mung Beans’, and Flowerdale Farm Alfalfa Salad Sprouts – Alfalfa, Onion and Mung Beans. The particular products in question are a batch having a use-by date of 23 January 2012 and were sold in a 120g plastic clam shape packet. The products had been selling at small grocery stores and green-grocers from 5 January 2012 and the Footscray Wholesale Fruit and Vegetable Market. Victoria Health’s Acting Chief Health Officer, Dr Rosemary Lester said, “Company testing of these products found high levels of E. coli and consumers should dispose of them. A recall of these products is now being conducted through Food Standards Australia New Zealand.”
