Arkansas Firm Recalls Ground Turkey Products Due to Possible Salmonella Contamination
The Recall Release 071-2011 has been updated on Sept. 27, 2011 to reflect that the Aug. 24, 2011 sample of ground turkey referenced in the Sept. 11, 2011 Recall Release has now been confirmed as the Salmonella Heidelberg outbreak strain (XbaI PFGE pattern 58/BlnI pattern 76) and FSIS has lab results that indicates the isolate is resistant to ampicillin, gentamicin, streptomycin, and tetracycline.
It is of great concern that the Salmonella is resistant to this range of antibiotics as it limits the treatments available to those suffering from Salmonella Heidelberg.
