Nieuwland Feed & Supply Limited, Ontario Corporation 1494913 Fined $8000 for Offences Under the Feeds Act

On April 18, 2011, two convictions were registered against Nieuwland Feed & Supply Limited, Ontario Corporation 1494913, in the Ontario Court of Justice in Stratford with a total fine of $8000. The company entered a guilty plea to two offences under the Feeds Act, which were uncovered during a routine inspection conducted in January 2010 at the company's commercial feed mill operation in Listowel, Ontario.

The first offence resulted from the company's failure to label a manufactured livestock feed with the required cautionary statement as prescribed by section 26(1) of the Feeds Regulations. The second offence resulted from the company's failure to register a manufactured livestock feed, as prescribed under section 5(1) of the Feeds Regulations, which did not meet conditions to exempt it from registration.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) verifies livestock feeds manufactured and sold in Canada or imported are safe, effective and are labelled appropriately. Effective feeds contribute to the production and maintenance of healthy livestock.
