Mexicantown Whole Issues Allergy Alert On Undeclared Pecans In Pan Nuez And Undeclared Milk In Magdalena, Pan De Maiz, YoyoPan Nuez, And Tacos De Pan Danes

The US FDA has issued a press release to confirm that Mexicantown Wholesale of Detroit, Michigan is recalling all lots of PAN NUEZ because they contain undeclared pecan chips. People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to pecans run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products. Mexicantown Wholesale of Detroit, Michigan is also recalling all lots of PAN NUEZ, MAGDALENA, PAN DE MAIZ, YOYO and TACOS DE PAN DANES manufactured between 6/27/2010 and 12/28/2010, because they contain undeclared milk. People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to milk run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products. The recalled PAN NUEZ, MAGDALENA, PAN DE MAIZ, YOYO and TACOS DE PAN DANES also contain undeclared wheat and FD&C Yellow#5, which can elicit moderate reactions in sensitive individuals.

PAN NUEZ, MAGDALENA, PAN DE MAIZ, YOYO and TACOS DE PAN DANES are sold in clear plastic bags of three or four. Packages are marked as “PAN NUEZ, UPC 95640 00172; MAGDALENA, UPC 95640 00142; PAN DE MAIZ, UPC 95640 00026; YOYO, UPC 95640 00148; and TACOS DE PAN DANES, UPC 95640 00186” with plain or Mexicantown labeling. PAN NUEZ, MAGDALENA, PAN DE MAIZ, YOYO and TACOS DE PAN DANES packages are distributed only in Michigan through retail stores.

Consumers should check their packages of MAGDALENA, PAN DE MAIZ, YOYO and TACOS DE PAN DANES to determine if the manufacture date is between 6/27/2010 and 12/28/2010. The date is marked on a colored label and is coded as follows: a six digit number with the first two digits representing the year, the second two digits representing the month, and the final two digits representing the day.

No allergic reactions or illnesses have been reported to date.
