Humei Trading Inc. Issues Alert on Undeclared Sulfites in Dried Pachyrhizus

The US FDA has issued a press release to confirm that Humei Trading Inc of Jamaica, NY is recalling Dried Pachyrhizus, (Product of China), because they contain undeclared sulfites. People who have severe sensitivity to sulfites run the risk of serious or life-threatening reactions if they consume these products.


Dried Pachyrhizus was distributed in the immediate New York City area. Product is identified in sealed plastic bag (NET WT 350G/12.32 OZ) as HUMEI FOODS DRIED PACHYRHIZUS, PRODUCT OF CHINA. No illnesses have been reported to date. The recall was initiated after routine sampling by New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets Food Inspectors and subsequent analysis by the Department’s Food Laboratory personnel revealed the presence of sulfites in the product, which were not declared on the label. The consumption of 10 milligrams of sulfites per serving has been reported to elicit severe reactions in some asthmatics. Anaphylactic shock could occur in certain sulfite sensitive individuals upon ingesting 10 milligrams or more of sulfites. Analysis of the HUMEI FOODS brand DRIED PACHYRHIZUS revealed it contained 139 milligrams per serving.
