Undeclared Sulphites in “Bifeng Nong Fu Shanzhuang” Plum Candy

The FDA has issued a press release to confirm that the New York State Agriculture Commissioner Patrick Hooker has alerted consumers that Tiffany Food Corporation, located at 1182 Flushing Ave, Brooklyn, New York is recalling “Bifeng Nong fu Shanzhuang” plum candy due to the presence of undeclared sulphites.

The recalled “Bifeng Nong fu Shanzhuang” plum candy is packaged in an uncoded 122 gram, plastic foil bag and were distributed nationwide. It is a product of China.

Routine sampling by New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets Food Inspectors and subsequent analysis of the product by Food Laboratory personnel revealed the product contained high levels of sulphites which were not declared on the label. The consumption of 10 milligrams of sulphites per serving has been reported to elicit severe reactions in some asthmatics. Anaphylactic shock could occur in certain sulphite sensitive individuals upon ingesting 10 milligrams or more of sulphites.

No illnesses have been reported to date to this Department in connection with this product. Consumers who have purchased “Bifeng Nong fu Shanzhuang” plum candy should contact Vivian Chen of Tiffany Food Corp at (718) 326-2667.
