Sanlu declared bankrupt

BBC News reports that the Chinese food group that was at the centre of the global contaminated milk scandal has been declared bankrupt with debts of $160m (£113m). Six babies died in China and over 300,000 children were made ill by the milk products. As I wrote back in December, melamine had been added to boost protein readings.

The BBC News report states that "The chairwoman of the Sanlu Group, Tian Wenhua, has already been sentenced to life imprisonment. Other Sanlu executives received sentences of five to 15 years. Two other men were sentenced to death".
