PCA files for bankruptcy protection

There have been thirteen further recalls added to the FDA list since my last post and further developments for PCA as an organisation. Reuters report that Peanut Corporation of America (PCA) has today sought bankruptcy protection after the salmonella outbreak traced to one of its plants "led to one of the biggest product recalls in U.S. history".

The report states that "The company filed a Chapter 7 bankruptcy petition in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Western District of Virginia, saying the negative economic effects of the recalls have been "extremely devastating" to its financial condition".

All peanut products are now being recalled from PCA's Texas Plant after after the State health department during an inspection found dead rodents, rodent excrement and bird feathers in a "crawl space above a production area". The PCA plant in Plainview, Texas had operated without a license for four years and had not been inspected until after the recent salmonella outbreak was traced to PCA's plant in Blakely, Georgia.
