Recall of Fionn Uisce Bottled water due to the presence of E. coli

The Health Service Executive (HSE) has informed the Food Safety Authority of Ireland that samples of water used by Fionn Uisce in its 18.9 litre bulk containers do not comply with the microbiological criteria for bottled water [European Communities (Natural Mineral Waters, Spring Waters and Other Waters in Bottles or Containers) Regulations 2007 – S.I. No. 225 of 2007].

The water is produced by Fionn Uisce Limited, Stafford Street, Nenagh, Co. Tipperary at its bottling plant in Killaloe, Co. Clare. The containers are supplied mainly to offices and businesses but some have been supplied to domestic users.

Fionn Uisce Limited has initiated a product recall and is contacting its customers.

Sudan I contamination of Alif Foods ‘Mix Bisar’ spice mix

The UK FSA has issued a food alert as follows:

"Heads of Environmental Health Services and Directors of Trading Standards will wish to be aware that Alif Foods ‘Mix Bisar’ spice mix has been found to be contaminated with non permitted colour Sudan I. Sudan I is not a permitted colour under the Colours in Food Regulations 1995. It is considered to be a genotoxic carcinogen and its presence at any level is not permitted in foodstuffs for any purpose. The ‘Mix Bisar’ is imported into the United Kingdom by Alif Foods and is manufactured and exported by Euro Traders in Pakistan. Despite enquiries by West Yorkshire Trading Standards, we have been unable to establish distribution details. It is believed distribution may be mainly in the Bradford area where wholesalers and retailers who sell ethnic food products are the main clients. However, there could be distribution to other areas, especially in the North of England.

A batch of Rotstern Crispy Rounds Confectionery has been found to contain peanut protein which is not declared on the label

The UK FSA has issued an allergy alert to confirm that a batch of Rotstern Crispy Rounds Confectionery has been found to contain peanut protein which is not declared on the label. This makes the product a health risk for people who are allergic to peanuts.

The product has been manufactured in Germany and imported into the UK by Tiger Retail Ltd. The Agency is aware that the product has been sold in Tiger stores who have voluntarily withdrawn the affected date code of this product. The Agency is currently investigating with Germany the possibility of further distribution within the UK and any actions they intend to take with regards to this product. In addition, Tiger Retail Ltd has contacted the relevant allergy support organisations who will inform their at-risk members of the withdrawal.

Waitrose Ltd recalls its Oriental Supper For Two with Spring Rolls due to incorrect allergen labelling information

The UK FSA has issued an allergy alert to confirm that Waitrose Ltd has recalled its Oriental Supper For Two with Spring Rolls due to incorrect allergen labelling information. The allergens it contains are fish, shellfish, milk and peanuts. Some packs of the above product may contain components intended for a different ready meal. As a result some of these products contain fish, shellfish, milk and peanuts, which are not declared on the label. The product is, therefore, a potential health risk for individuals who are allergic and/or intolerant to the aforementioned allergens. No other Waitrose Ltd products are known to be affected. L&M Companies, Inc. Recalls Whole Cantaloupes Because Of Possible Health Risk

The FDA has issued a food alert to confirm that L&M Companies, Inc. of Raleigh, NC is recalling one lot of whole cantaloupes because it has the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella. No illnesses have been reported to date. The recall comes after a cantaloupe at a small farm from which L&M Companies sources product tested positive for Salmonella. L&M Companies has ceased shipments from this farm, and the grower continues to investigate the cause of the problem. For more details follow the link.

Undeclared sulphites in grain bars

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and Rocky Mountain Grain Products (Division of 299614 Alberta Ltd.) are warning people with sensitivity to sulphites not to consume the "More Than a Square Meal" bar with Raisins described below. The affected product contains sulphites which are not declared on the label. The Rocky Mountain Grain Products "More Than a Square Meal" bar with Raisins is sold in a 200 g package bearing UPC 8 31537 00012 2. Only those packages of this product which do not clearly declare sulphites on the label are affected by this alert.

The affected product is known to have been distributed in British Columbia, Alberta, and Ontario. However, it is likely this product was distributed nationally. There have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of this product. Consumption of this product may cause a serious or life-threatening reaction in persons with sensitivity to sulphites.

Undeclared milk in soy products

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and Parmalat Canada Inc. are warning people with allergies to milk proteins not to consume certain Sensational Soy Smooth Original and Sensational Soy Classic Vanilla products because they may contain milk protein which is not declared on the label.

These products have been distributed in Ontario and there have been no reported illnesses associated with their consumption. Consumption of these products may cause a serious or life-threatening reaction in persons with allergies to milk proteins. For product details follow the link.

Marks and Spencer withdraws Chicken Forestier Paté due to cream not being declared on the label

The UK FSA has issued an allergy alert to confirm that Marks and Spencer has withdrawn its Chicken Forestier Paté due to cream not being declared on the label. A specific batch code contains cream, which has not been declared on the label. This makes the product a potential health risk for people who are allergic to or intolerant to dairy products.

LeClerc Foods Announces a Limited Nationwide Voluntary Recall of Market Pantry Chocolate Chip Chewy Granola Bars due to Unlabeled Peanut Allergen

The US FDA report that Leclerc Foods has initiated a limited voluntary recall of a single lot of Market Pantry Chocolate Chip Chewy Granola Bar packages with UPC Code 85239 20124 and a “Best By” date of 18JAN2010.

The recall was initiated as a precautionary measure after it was discovered that product was mispackaged and the retail units may also contain Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Bars and S’more Bars. As a result the ingredient statement on the retail package does not include peanuts as an ingredient. People who have allergies to peanuts run the risk of serious or life threatening allergic reactions if they consume this product.

The wrappers of the individual bars within the retail package have correct variety name on it. However, out of an abundance of precaution, the mispackaged product is being recalled.
No illnesses or allergic reactions have been reported to date.

AZ Hydroponic Farming Recalls 4oz Alfalfa Sprout Cup Because of Possible Health Risk

The US FDA has issued a press release to confirm that Arizona Hydroponic Farming LLC. of Eloy, Arizona, has voluntarily recalled its “4oz Alfalfa Sprout Cup” as a preventive measure because of a positive test result in California for Salmonella.

The potential for contamination was noted after routine testing by the USDA revealed the presence of Salmonella in some 4 ounce packages collected from a customer in California. The affected AZ Hydroponic Farming shipments are questionable since they were grown from the same batch of seeds as the sprouts sent to California. For more details follow the link.

Sugar Foods Issues Allergy Alert on Undeclared Milk in The Farmers Market Butter & Garlic Crouton Products

The US FDA has issued a product recall press release to confirm that NY based company Sugar Foods Corporation announced a recall of 531 cases of The Farmers Market Butter & Garlic crouton product because the croutons may contain undeclared milk allergens. People who have an allergy or sensitivity to milk products are at risk for serious allergic reactions if they consume this product. Pasta & Co Recalls Chinese Vermicelli Salad and Pot Sticker Salad Due To Possible Health Risk

The US FDA has issued a product recall press release to confirm that Pasta & Co of Seattle, WA is recalling their Chinese Vermicelli Salad and Pot Sticker Salad, because it has the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella. TV Food LLC Recalls "Curry Spice" Because of Possible Health Risk

The US FDA has issued a food recall press release to confirm that TV Food LLC of San Leandro, California, is recalling its 3.5ounce package of “Curry Spice”, because it has the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella.

The recalled “Curry Spice” was distributed to only two retail stores in Northern California: Richmond New May Wah Supermarket on 711-719 Clement Street in S.F., CA. and New Saigon Supermarket on 950 International Blvd in Oakland, CA. The product comes in a 3.5 ounce, clear plastic container with a red plastic lid, expiration date 01/31/2010, product name is labeled three different languages: English (“Curry” Spice), French (Saveur De “Curry” poudre) and in Vietnamese (Bot Gia Vi Ca Ri). The bar code number is 9-87512-31986-1. This is a product of Vietnam. No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this problem.

Spinach recalled due to Salmonella contamination

The US FDA has issued a food alert press release to confirm that KLEEN-PAK FOODS of Milwaukee Wisconsin is recalling its 10 ounce and 1 pound packages of fresh spinach because they have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella.

The recalled spinach was distributed locally in retail stores and food wholesalers in Wisconsin, the Chicago area, and Minnesota.The product comes in 10 ounce and 1 pound packages marked with a use by date of 4/29, 4/30, and 5/01. No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this problem.

The potential for contamination was noted after routine testing by the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection revealed the presence of Salmonella in some 1 pound packages of spinach. Recall of various brands of sesame seed products due to the presence of salmonella

The UK FSA has issued a food alert to confirm the recall of various brands of sesame seed products due to the presence of salmonella. The alert states that:

"All brand owners concerned have removed from sale the products listed below. Point-of-sale notices have been issued in stores. These notices will alert customers to the recall and advise them of what actions to take if they have already purchased the affected products.
The products recalled are: Asda Whole Foods Sesame Seeds Pack Size: 150g Before Before End: Sept 2009, October 2009, Nov 2009 and Dec 2009
